Tribute to UCW Women
United Church minister, Rev. Allan Reeve, lost his mother, Marion Reeve – daughter, wife and mother to a line of ministers. Allan wrote this poem for his mother and it could be a description of so many UCW women.
What is your hope?
I hope the Maker takes the total sum of my love
all the sunsets and sunrises
all the kisses and caresses
all the graces given and received
every single breathless moment that couldn’t last
distilled into this one wish
Take all that love summed up
and divide it into infinite bits
and send that love on angel wings
to those who need it most today
Whoever’s lost hope
whoever’s lost love
What would I do with all that love now that I’m done doing?
What would I keep for me now that all my weighty worries are gone?
When “I” am no longer me
When I can no longer hold and show and tell what’s mine
then take what’s made me strong
what’s healed me, taught me, caught me and pass it on
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Our knitting group is continuing. We have a good supply of prayer shawls on hand right now but we are still getting together to work on other projects – perhaps a scarf for My Sisters Place or mittens for the Men’s Mission… Join us the third Saturday of each month between 9:30 and noon. All knitters welcome from beginner to expert!
A little history
Women within the United Church have been forming UCW groups since the organization was formally inaugurated on January 1st, 1962
Any woman who is willing to contribute to the work of the church may participate in United Church Women. A Life Membership pin and certificate are available to any member of the UCW whom a UCW group may wish to honour.
The very active units of the UCW meet regularly.
Please see the Church Calendar for meeting dates and times.
